Heroes of Toolik

Heroes of Toolik certainly are a supergroup featuring several veterans of the brand new York City alternate and avant-garde music moments. Their music mixes their experimental sensibilities with rootsy instrumentation (including accordion and fiddle) and lyrics that may be both wry and heartfelt. These were created in 2011 by guitarist/vocalist Arad Evans (Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham) and ex-Modern Enthusiasts bassist Ernie Brooks, along with Tv drummer Billy Ficca, trombonist Peter Zummo (Arthur Russell, Lounge Lizards), and vocalist/violinist Jennifer Coates. Their debut recording, Winter Moon, premiered in 2012. Following the album’s launch, Music group of Susans guitarist Robert Poss became a member of the group, and John Speck changed Zummo as the group’s trombone participant (at Zummo’s suggestion). Heroes of Toolik documented their second recording, Like Evening, with manufacturer Wharton Tiers, and it had been released in 2016.
