Herman Riley

The tough-toned tenor of Herman Riley is definitely a very important asset on the many performances and recordings located in the LA area. He performed locally in New Orleans as an adolescent, served within the armed service (1955-57) and attended NORTH PARK City University. After shifting to LA in the first 1960’s, Riley caused virtually everyone through the following few years including Count number Basie, Shelly Manne, Benny Carter, Bobby Bryant, Joe Williams, Donald Byrd, Gene Ammons, Blue Mitchell, Quincy Jones, the Capp-Pierce Juggernaut, Lorez Alexandria and many more. The only recording that perennial sideman offers thus far produced as a innovator is really a Jam Lp from 1985.
