Herman Lubinsky

Famous for being truly a rather profane cheapskate who had a minimal opinion of several from the musicians that he documented, Herman Lubinsky was a significant character. He previously been involved with radio, working New Jersey’s initial station WNJ back 1924 and signing up for the United Radio Firm. In 1942, he founded the Savoy label, which through the next 2 decades documented important periods by Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Fatty acids Navarro, Errol Garner, Cannonball Adderley, Yusef Lateef, and also Sunlight Ra, among numerous others. Savoy steadily shifted its concentrate from golf swing and bop (it had been among the main bop brands) to R&B, blues, hard bop and lastly (in the 1960s) gospel.
