An excellent trombonist mixed up in West Coastline jazz scene from the 1950s, Herbie Harper spent the majority of his taking part in period after 1955 like a studio room musician, although he sometimes re-emerged within the jazz world. After using Charlie Spivak’s Orchestra (1944-1947), Harper resolved in LA, where he gigged with Teddy Edwards and experienced short-time organizations with Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, and Stan Kenton (1950). Furthermore to documenting in the 1950s with June Christy, Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Benny Carter, and Barnet, Herbie Harper led five albums of his personal during 1954-1957 for Nocturne, Tampa, Bethlehem, and Setting. He mostly worked well within the studios later on, but emerged to try out with Bob Florence’s big music group and, within the 1980s, he documented for SeaBreeze along with Expenses Perkins for VSOP.
