Henry Franklin

Jazz bassist Henry Franklin was created in 1940, the child of West Coastline jazz trumpeter Sammy Franklin. Henry Franklin started his own profession while he was still in senior high school, using his modern, Roy Ayers, within the latter’s Latin jazz quintet. This encounter put Franklin in relation to his use Latin jazz bandleader and percussionist Willie Bobo. His use Bobo in NY also resulted in Franklin’s using Archie Shepp. Franklin later on used Hugh Masekela, showing up within the latter’s number 1 single, “Grazing within the Lawn,” as well as the recording Promise of another (1968), that was among Franklin’s first official documenting credits (and was among the bigger-selling jazz albums of 1968). He got further publicity from his use Masekela when Franklin performed in the music group the South African-born trumpet participant taken to the Monterey International Pop Event in June of 1967 — the look of them there is immortalized within the D.A. Pennebaker documentary film of the function, Monterey Pop. Within the years since, Franklin — also known as “the Skipper” — offers played and documented with Gene Harris & the Three Seems, Freddie Hubbard, Bobbi Humphrey, Hampton Hawes, et al., in addition to releasing a brace of albums by his personal band directly into the 21st hundred years.
