Helium

Helium is actually the task of Mary Timony, formerly of the lady punk music group Autoclave. Helium produced in 1992 with Brian Dunton on bass and Shawn Ruler Devlin and began launching 7″s like 1993’s The American Jean. 1994 noticed the band discharge the Pirate Prude EP, a fascinating but relatively inaccessible workout in combining radical feminism with punk rock and roll. The Dirt of Good fortune, released in 1995, was a noticable difference and embellishment from the sound laid forth in Pirate Prude: Large, slow guitars, spooky keyboards, and Timony’s breathy alto laid over an understated tempo section. That yr, Polvo’s Ash Bowie also became a member of the lineup, changing Dunton on bass. In 1997, the group came back with the Simply no Guitars EP. Helium can be a challenging pay attention but also a satisfying one.
