Head East

Head East experienced many lineups and music techniques before consolidating in St. Louis in the first ’70s as a difficult rock quintet comprising John Schlitt (vocals), Mike Somerville (electric guitar), Roger Boyd (keyboards), Dan Birney (bass), and Steve Huston (drums), all alumni from the College or university of Illinois. They documented their debut record, Flat being a Pancake, separately and released it independently Pyramid Information label in early 1975. Once the monitor “Under no circumstances Been Any Cause” begun to attract radio interest, A&M Records agreed upon the music group and re-released Level being a Pancake in June 1975. The singles “Under no circumstances Been Any Cause” and “Like Me Tonight” became minimal pop graph entries, as well as the record spent half a year on the graphs, eventually going precious metal. GRAB YOURSELF Up (Apr 1976) and Gettin’ Lucky (March, 1977) had been less effective, but Mind East (Feb, 1978), spurred from the small singles chart access “BECAUSE YOU Been Eliminated,” reached the top half of the very best 100. The double-LP Mind East Live! (January, 1979) also peaked in the very best 100, as do A Different Sort of Crazy (Oct, 1979), as well as the music group performed around the soundtrack towards the comic anthology film J-Men Forever! (1979), but by the end of the entire year, Birney and Somerville remaining the group while Schlitt became a member of the Christian rock and roll group Petra. Boyd and Huston recruited Tag Boatman, Tony Gross, and Dan Odum to record U.S. 1 (Oct 1980), Mind East’s last recording to attain the graphs and last recently recorded launch on A&M; it had been a minor graph entry. Following its industrial heyday, Boyd led the music group in continuing touring and documenting for small brands. The music group was inducted in to the Iowa Rock and roll & Move Music Association’s Hall of Popularity in 2011.
