Harry Lim

Although he was a lifelong fan of jazz, Harry Lim was mainly active in jazz during two different periods. He was raised in holland where he became extremely keen on jazz, moving towards the U.S. in 1939. After operating like a freelance record maker, Lim was the Keystone label’s jazz maker from 1943-46, piecing together ratings of classic classes. The emphasis was on small-group jazz that ranged from Dixieland to bop but mainly focused on best swing all-stars. The grade of the music under Lim’s assistance was high; regrettably, in 1946, he was changed by John Hammond, and Keynote quickly dropped and became defunct. Lim experienced his personal short-lived HL label in 1949, created several obscure classes for Seeco, and attempted reviving Keynote in 1955, but he finished up operating at Sam Goody’s NY record shop from 1956-73. Lim do return to generating in 1972 when he created the Famous Door label, a high mainstream record organization that recorded a number of useful (however now hard-to-find) classes by Costs Watrous, Crimson Norvo, Zoot Sims among others until the producer’s loss of life. Gladly, Harry Lim was still around when Polygram reissued every one of the Keynote jazz periods on an enormous LP box occur 1986.
