One of the excellent hard bop pianists in the Memphis region, Harold Mabern offers led relatively couple of dates over time, but he is definitely respected by his contemporaries. He performed in Chicago with MJT + 3 in the past due ’50s and moved to NY in 1959. Mabern caused Jimmy Forrest, Lionel Hampton, the Jazztet (1961-1962), Donald Byrd, Mls Davis (1963), J.J. Johnson (1963-1965), Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Wes Montgomery, Joe Williams (1966-1967), and Sarah Vaughan. During 1968-1970, Mabern led four albums for Prestige, he was with Lee Morgan in the first ’70s, and in 1972, he documented with Stanley Cowell’s Piano Choir. Harold Mabern provides recorded being a head for DIW/Columbia and Sackville and toured using the Contemporary Piano Outfit (1993-1995).
