Led by two vocalists who alternate between guitarist and drummer roles, indie rock and roll trio Harlem enjoy spirited, rickety garage area rock using a heartfelt passion and a understanding smirk. Writing a shared admiration for Darby Crash’s troglodyte on-stage antics, Tucson, AZ buddies Curtis O’Mara and Michael Coomers began producing purposely sloppy punk music in senior high school. They performed pieces under several brands, including Wise Pussy, Coomers Explosion, and Green Intensive, before graduating and heading their separate methods. O’Mara transferred to Nashville and Coomers discovered his way towards the Bay Region. Discouraged with the monotony of time jobs, both picked up once again in Nashville and attempt to play their in the past house. Sleeping on flooring and spinning bass players on the way, they ultimately arrived in Austin, TX, where these were picked to become included on a compilation of regional indie hopefuls that premiered by Matador Information in January 2010. Immediately after Informal Sufferer Pile: Austin 2010 strike store cabinets, Matador agreed upon the music group and Harlem’s debut, Hippies, premiered only 90 days later.
