Hal Smith

A drummer with solid inclinations toward traditional jazz efficiency, Hal Smith was created in Indianapolis, IN, on July 30, 1953. Taking on drums at age ten — among his instructors was the fantastic Jake Hanna — he produced his professional debut in 1978, and in the years to check out served with famous brands the Dukes of Dixieland as well as the Grand Dominion Jazz Music group. Smith also led groupings like the Frisco Syncopaters as well as the Down House Jazz Music group, and frequently collaborated with Butch Thompson and Bobby Gordon. Among his documenting schedules are 1994’s California Right here I Arrive, 1995’s Swing, Sibling, Golf swing, and 1996’s Bourbon Road Recollections. Smith was also a reputed jazz journalist, adding countless content to magazines including Jazz Rambler, Mississippi Rag, and Western world Coast Rag.
