H2O

The ’80s Scottish band H2O shares its appellation using a ’90s American punk group. Nevertheless, they aren’t related, plus they audio nothing as well. H2O produced in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1978. After vocalist Ian Donaldson departed in the punk music group Skroo, he founded H2O with Colin Ferguson (bass), Ross Alcock (keyboards), Kenny Dorman (drums), Colin Gavison (saxophone), and Davie Wells (electric guitar). The group released its initial single, “Hollywood Wish,” in 1981. In 1983, H2O had been agreed upon to RCA. The one “Wish to Rest” discovered airplay in Britain, crashing in the very best 20 from the British charts. H2O’s just album, Faith, premiered in 1984. With H2O, Donaldson veered wildly from his punk root base, opting rather for the white spirit of Spandau Ballet and Fiction Stock. H2O became instantly recognizable by Donaldson’s deep, sturdy tone of voice, and he exhibited his vocal range by belting out high records in music like “Blue Gemstone” and “CONTINUE,” the last mentioned only appearing over the Blue Gemstone EP. Danceable synths and cool bass similar to Duran Duran helped body H2O’s distinctly ’80s audio. Nevertheless, it never captured on, and H2O converted into vapor.
