Iconoclastic, enigmatic and angst-ridden are words utilized to describe previous front side man for the punk/thrash metallic group Poor Brains, H.R. (Ras Hailu Gabriel Joseph I). A devout Rastafarian, H.R.’s tunes, a seamless mixture of performing, rap and African chanting, demand interpersonal and financial equality and a finish to oppression and racism. He got his focus on the Washington, D.C.-centered Poor Brains, and sang together with the ’80s. H.R. regularly remaining to pursue his personal career, returning and then make several quick dollars. He infused their music along with his personal make of reggae rhythms, that they known as “rasta-core,” but grew disillusioned because followers were interested in their hardcore sound compared to the message of like he was attempting to convey. Set alongside the rough-edged, riotous energy from the Brains, H.R.’s reggae was mellower as could be heard in his past due ’80s recording Singin’ within the Center (SST) which he documented in between Poor Brains’ I Against I and Quickness. H.R. remaining the band once and for all in 1989 and it has since done developing his single career.
