Progressive rock outfit Gypsy began its existence because the Minneapolis-based pop band the Underbeats, shaped in 1964 by guitarist Adam Johnson, bassist Doni Larson, and drummer Tom Green. With the next addition of vocalist/guitarist Enrico Rosenbaum, the group frequently performed through the entire Twin Metropolitan areas circuit, scoring a small number of regional strikes including “Footstompin’,” “Annie Perform your dog” and “Reserve of Appreciate.” Keyboardist Adam “Owl” Walsh was recruited after Johnson was drafted for armed forces assistance in 1969; upon his release, Johnson returned towards the Underbeats lineup, as well as the quintet relocated to LA immediately after, where they arrived a gig because the home band on the famed Whiskey-a-Go-Go.
