Guillermo Gregorio

Blessed in Argentina in the first ’40s, the peripatetic Gregorio also lived in LA (where he studied with saxophonist Warne Marsh) and Vienna, before eventually settling in Chicago. After shifting to Vienna from California in the past due ’80s, Gregorio fulfilled and started collaborating using the free of charge jazz flügelhornist Franz Koglmann. The Swiss hatART label uncovered Gregorio through his association with Koglmann. The business released his initial album, Around, in 1996; two following initiatives — Ellipsis and VOCALS — were afterwards released in the label’s hatOLOGY offshoot. We were young in Buenos Aires, Gregorio’s first jazz affects had been early jazz clarinetists Pee Wee Russell and Jimmy Noone. He ultimately became thinking about the music of pianist Lennie Tristano and his group; their cool visual could have a decisive effect on his mature concept (Ornette Coleman’s enhancements also acquired their impact). Gregorio examined modern traditional music, in addition to art and structures. He’s worked within the last mentioned two areas and teaches Artwork Understanding at Purdue School. Within the ’60s, Gregorio performed experimental music around Buenos Aires; a few of his function from that point is documented within the Atavistic launch Otra Musica: Tape Music, Fluxus & Totally free Improvisation in Buenos Aires 1963-70.
