Biography

b. c. 1964, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Tardy analyzed traditional clarinet as a kid, motivated by his parents, both of whom had been opera performers. His mom, Jo Anne Tardy, after performing traditional music became a gospel-influenced jazz vocalist. After switching to tenor saxophone, Tardy used funk rings in Milwaukee before his sibling urged him to hear jazz, and he was specifically affected by John Coltrane’s recordings. He analyzed in the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music with the University or college of New Orleans, on the way encountering Ellis Marsalis who became teacher and mentor. Citizen in NEW YORK from 1992, Tardy became deeply mixed up in modern jazz and improvised music moments. Among music artists with whom he offers performed are Rashied Ali, Omer Avitel, Jonathan Blake, Betty Carter, Steve Coleman, George Colligan, Ravi Coltrane, Sean Conly, Xavier Davis, Dave Douglas, Expenses Frisell, Aaron Goldberg, Russell Gunn, Eric Harland, Tom Harrell, Antonio Hart, Andrew Hill, Elvin Jones, Joe Lovano, Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Jay McShann, Mulgrew Miller, Wayne Moody, John Patitucci, Nicholas Payton, Chris Potter, Dewy Redman, David Schumacher, Tag Turner and Bobby Watson, the second option getting cited as a particularly important impact.
