Having previously spent amount of time in various other bands like the Ghost, Olehole, and Monster Squad, San Francisco-based friends Brian Moss (vocals, guitar), Rob Carter (guitar), Josh Kuntz (bass), and Matthew Kadi (drums), produced Great Ape in 2011. By the finish of the entire year, the music group had inserted the studio room to record the music that would constitute their initial few produces in the springtime of 2012: a self-titled 7″ on State-10 and two divide singles with Daikon and Understand Your Saints. The music group spent the others of 2012 playing displays over the U.S. to get the singles — including a Halloween present as Jahbreaker playing reggae addresses of Jawbreaker music — and in August announced the departure of bassist Kuntz, who was simply changed by Ryan Marshall.
