Being the first proponent of Marathi cinema, Govindrao Sadashiv Tembe’s contribution to Indian music is based on his popularizing harmonium as at the very top modern Indian music tool. Owned by the renowned Jaipur Gharana, Tembe’s initial accomplishment was the music for Marathi play Manapaman. His biggest achievement was music for the initial Marathi talkie Ayodhyecha Raja. In 1916, he produced his theatrical group, Shivraj Natak Mandali, and continued to compose music for movies like Jalti Nishani and Mayamacchindra.
