Gordon Gano

Along with his band the Violent Femmes, Gordon Gano helped define post-punk’s nerdy cool face of the 1980s and ’90s while also crafting himself into among modern rock’s finest singer/songwriters. Gordon Adam Gano was created to some Baptist minister dad along with a musical mom on June 6, 1963. He was among eight kids and spent his early youth singing along with his family members. An understanding for famous brands Johnny Money, the Carter Family members, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams sparked Gano’s musical passions. When Gano’s family members transferred to Milwaukee, WI during his 6th grade season, he began playing electric guitar and writing music. Gano spent another two decades using the music group. The Violent Femmes’ self-titled debut record was the initial album to attain platinum status in the us without ever producing the charts. Music like “Blister in sunlight,” “Add It Up,” and “Kiss Off” became cult classics. In 1986, Gano had taken some time faraway from the Violent Femmes and became a member of the gospel group the Mercy Chair. He, vocalist Zena Von Heppinstall, Patrice Moran (bass/vocals), and Fernando Menendez (drums) released the Mercy Seat’s eponymous debut, their just discharge, in 1987.
