Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever were shaped in 2008 by Portland, Oregon musicians Jonathan Sielaff and Matt Carlson. Sielaff’s experimental pop action Au played sometimes with Parenthetical Young ladies, the dramatic indie troupe that Carlson have been dealing with, and both musicians started collaborating together after fully exchanging single recordings. Carlson performed modular analog synthesizer and Sielaff performed bass clarinet, both monophonic equipment which the duo prepared and manipulated to make polyphonic drones and moving ambient compositions. Golden Retriever performed frequently in Portland and released many small-run cassettes and CD-Rs before issuing their debut LP, Light Cones, with the main Strata label in 2011. A far more refined and much less improvisatory second recording appeared by means of 2012’s Occupied using the Unspoken, released this time around by Thrill Jockey Information. The duo’s following recording, Seer, was documented at a leisurely pace over another two years within their home studio room and saw launch in 2014.
