Combining components of punk, Gypsy music, and Brecht-ian cabaret, Gogol Bordello inform the storyplot of Fresh York’s immigrant diaspora through debauchery, humor, and surreal costumes. Innovator and vocalist Eugene Hütz’s flavor in music was spun away from black marketplace tapes from the PARTY and Einstürzande Neubauten in his indigenous Ukraine. After getting evacuated to traditional western Ukraine in 1986 following Chernobyl devastation, Hütz became enamored from the mystical, outsider characteristics of Gypsy music.
