Gladys Bentley

Gladys Bentley was created August 12, 1907 (some accounts list the birthday as January 12), in Philadelphia, PA. As a woman she transferred to NY City’s well-known Harlem region, where, dressed up in her personal tuxedo and best hat, she started singing at lease celebrations and speakeasies, creating a graphic being a lesbian chanteuse. She documented ten monitors for Okeh Information in NY between August 1928 and March 1929, eight which had been officially released with the label. In 1937 she still left NY and transferred to LA, CA. She documented ten monitors for Excelsior Information in 1945 and an individual for Flame Information in the 1950s, but considering that she needed to significantly build down her outrageous and bawdy stage action to be able to record, non-e of her produces effectively catches her musical fact. She passed away on January 18, 1960, from flu problems.
