Gilgamesh

A quiet progressive rock and roll outfit with strong jazz fusion leanings, Gilgamesh emerged from your fringes from the fertile and beloved “Canterbury picture” as type of an astute child sibling to Hatfield as well as the North. Amanda Parsons also added crystalline support vocals to both organizations. With Gilgamesh, keyboardist Alan Gowen attemptedto erase the department between made up and improvised music, putting emphasis on consistency and feeling. The band split up after one recording, and Gowen jumped between numerous Canterbury-related tasks (Canterburians never residing in anybody place too much time). In 1978 Gowen became a member of National Health, after that re-formed Gilgamesh for any reunion LP, Another Good Tune YOU HAVE Me Into. This second work featured the skills of famous Soft Machine bassist Hugh Hopper. Gowen teamed with Hopper for a number of more albums, especially Two Rainbows Daily. In 1982, Gowen succumbed to leukemia. Country wide Health devoted their third launch to his memory space. Entitled D.S. al Coda, it included compositions by Gowen which were created but hadn’t yet appeared with an recording — before release from the Playtime Compact disc from the Cuneiform label in 2001. Cuneiform also released a Gilgamesh archival compilation entitled Arriving Double in 2000, offering previously unreleased songs from three independent incarnations of the group between 1973 and 1975.
