Blessed in Nuevo León, but raised in Nuevo Laredo, Mexican Gilberto Puente started singing, together with his sibling Raul Puente, in 1947 and formed a duo known as Los Cuates Puente. These were became a member of in 1951 by Gustavo Puente and afterwards Hermilio García, debuting in 1954 as Trio Puente García. After teaming up with José Porras and Chelo Silva in 1957, they transferred to Mexico Town, obtaining along with well-known vocalist Virginia López and contacting themselves Los Tres Reyes. In 1958, ex-Trio Los Panchos Hernando Aviles became a member of in, producing their initial record. Even so, Los Tres Reyes disbanded in 1966. In the first ’70s, Gustavo Puente began developing a effective career being a solo guitarist.
