GiftHorse

Formed in LA in 1996, Present Horse was initially conceived when Sven “Svendrix” Spieker (a German guitarist, and passionate Jimi Hendrix buff as the nickname indicate) and Bret Levick fulfilled. Having been elevated in Paris, Levick maybe had a specific European sensibility in keeping with Spieker that manifested itself inside a like of certain distributed musical influences. For reasons uknown, both quickly became songwriting companions. Basic rockers like David Bowie, the Beatles, and Iggy Pop had been the musical basis which Spieker and Levick constructed their tuneful, however subversive pop tracks around. The duo would sometimes try their masterpieces on close friends and coffeehouse customers around L.A., even while honing what would become pretty serious pop/rock and roll songwriting chops. Quickly a complete lineup that included bassist Barry Oakley (boy of Allman Sibling bassist Berry Oakley and previous person in Bloodline) and drummer/percussionist Chris Razze was finished, and following the name Present Horse was selected, the four-piece started to create and perform at an accelerated speed. In 1997, Present Equine released a self-titled Compact disc independently how the group were able to do a good job offering themselves. When indie upstart Pinch Strike Records contacted the music group, these were reticent initially, only permitting the label to greatly help with radio advertising of their music. Ultimately, Present Horse authorized to Pinch Strike, and in Sept of 1998 their label debut Extra, Lays and Heather’s Arrest premiered. The record was remarkably strong, drawing evaluations to Bowie and T. Rex. As the group’s free-wheeling acoustic guitar sound did possess a particular ’70s swagger, generally, this launch was pure alternate acoustic guitar rock (or, even more appropriately, that which was becoming called alternative at that time.) Nothing at all on Excess, Lays and Heather’s Arrest might have been regarded groundbreaking at that time, but the discharge deserved (and received) high songwriting and functionality marks. The music group started making a little dent in the faculty radio graphs when their record as well as the one “Heather’s Arrest” both started obtaining positive notices. The devilish tale of the girlfriend’s incarceration, the monitor was blended by grunge experienced Barrett Jones (Nirvana, Bush). A good quantity of touring implemented to get their Pinch Strike debut, as well as the music group stayed relatively active well into 2000, and a long amount of silence implemented. A tiny mismatch using their label, Present Horse acquired the songwriting intuition to be always a participant in the competitive globe of commercial rock and roll radio, but with no much needed support of a significant label. The music group dissolved (or at least their name do) as the Present Equine moniker was out as well as the rather unlucky name Alien Gonzalez is at.
