Gerald Veasley

Given birth to and raised in Philadelphia, Gerald Veasley is a superb bassist that has played his talk about of business music but definitely gets the chops necessary for more improvisatory configurations. Veasley was subjected to gospel and R&B as a kid and continued to try out in a variety of R&B rings in Western Philly as an adolescent in the past due ’60s and 1970s. On the way, he found out jazz and found appreciate Weather Statement and Go back to Forever just as much as he valued Earth, Blowing wind & Open fire and Smokey Robinson. Veasley offers cited Jaco Pastorius, Anthony Jackson, and Stanley Clarke as his primary influences on electrical bass, and offers called Oscar Pettiford and Paul Chambers as his favorites around the acoustic bass. Having kept the music of Weather Statement and Pastorius in such high respect, Veasley was happy when, in 1988, Weather Statement co-founder Joe Zawinul employed him like a sideman. Veasley, who remained with Zawinul until 1995, authorized with Mind Up International in the first ’90s and documented his first recording for the label, Appear Forward, in 1992 before offering Indicators in 1994 and Spirit Control in 1997. Veasley continuing using the label, issuing the mellow, easy album Love Characters in 1999, after that came back in 2001 with On the Fast Monitor, a lively, funk-inflected go back to the grooves of his early profession.
