b. 14 November 1889, Pittsburgh, Pa, USA, d. 2 June 1961, NY, USA. For a guy who was likely to hate music and musicals with significant fervour, George S. Kaufman produced significant contributions being a librettist and movie director to a number of productions in the American musical theater in the 20s to the 50s. Early in his profession he proved helpful as a paper columnist for quite some time in Washington and later on in NY where he became among the brightest youthful talents in the first 30s, a lot of whom, including Kaufman, Band Lardner, Dorothy Parker, Alexander Woollcott, and Robert Benchley, had been members from the Algonquin Resort’s Round Desk arranged. After co-writing the publication with Marc Connelly in 1923 for Helen Of Troy, NY, which experienced a rating by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, Kaufman added sketches or was the librettist or co-librettist on several additional Broadway musical productions including Music Package Revue (Third Release), Become Yourself!, The Cocoanuts, Pet Crackers, THE TINY Show, Hit Up The Music group, Nine-Fifteen Revue, as well as the Music group Wagon (1931). Right now an established number, he also directed a lot of the following productions which he worked well. In the 30s and 40s these included Of Thee I Sing, that he received a Pulitzer Honor, Encounter The Music (movie director only), Allow ’Em Eat Wedding cake, I’d Rather Become Best, Sing Out THE NEWS HEADLINES, Seven Lively Arts, Hollywood Pinafore, and Recreation area Avenue (1946). In 1950 Kaufman gained a Tony Honor for his path of the outstanding Men And Dolls, and, five years later on, collaborated along with his second wife, the celebrity Leueen MacGrath, within the publication for the Cole Porter musical Silk Stockings. His function in the musical theater was only a portion of his wider result. He is acknowledged with 45 takes on written together with some 16 known collaborators who included Edna Furber, Band Lardner, and his primary later on collaborator Moss Hart. With Hart he published a number of the American theater’s most long lasting comedies – Once In AN ETERNITY, You Can’t Consider It With You (that he gained his second Pulitzer Award), and THE PERSON Who FOUND Dinner.
