George Morel

Among the central statistics in the early-’90s NY garage/house scene devoted to the Strictly Tempo label and its own Puerto Rican root base, vocalist George Morel worked for the label and produced many of Strictly Rhythm’s most successful monitors. Born in NY, Morel released some EPs known as Morel’s Grooves that started in 1992 and continuing over time, each 12″ showcasing his Latin home sound and getting very popular and important. Other 12″s continued, the majority of that are put together on his 1996 best-of collection, THE VERY BEST of Morel’s Grooves. Morel afterwards moved from Totally Rhythm, especially scoring another large anthem with “Accurate (The Faggot Is certainly You),” released by Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi label and championed by the favorite DJ duo. In the first 2000s, Morel became even more carefully aligned with DEEPDISH, assisting them engineer their Global Underground: Moscow record, for instance, and appearing of all from the duo’s combine albums.
