George “Mojo” Buford

The various rings led by harmonica player and singer George “Mojo” Buford hark back again to the classic Chicago blues seems of the first ’60s. Among harmonica players, Buford gets the distinction to be the just musician to possess played with numerous bands led from the past due Muddy Waters in the 1950s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. (Waters passed away in Apr 1981.) Buford remaining Mississippi for Memphis in his teenagers and honed his chops around Memphis before going to Chicago in 1952. He started using Waters in Chicago in the past due ’50s, but by 1962 Buford relocated to Minneapolis, where he documented many obscure albums for the Vernon and Folk-Art brands. He rejoined Waters’ music group in 1967 for a complete year and toured with him once again in the first ’70s, after harmonica participant Jerry Portnoy remaining to create the Legendary Blues Music group. By 1979 Buford was documenting and touring around with rings under his personal name. He documented Mojo Buford’s Blues Summit in 1979 for Mr. Blues, later on reissued within the Rooster Blues label, and his 1990s recordings consist of Still Blowin’ Solid and Harpslinger, both released in 1996 from the Blue Loon Information label; a 1998 launch for English blues label JSP Information entitled State from the Blues Harp; and a 1998 stateside launch, Home Is definitely Where My Harps Is definitely, also for Blue Loon. Recently, he documented a live album, Champagne & Reefer, in 1999 for New York-based Fedora Information and Chicago Blues Summit in 2002 for P-Vine Information. He continued to try out until his loss of life in Oct 2011.
