George Drakoulias

George Drakoulias was an employee manufacturer and A&R professional on the (Def) American label, where he discovered and later on helmed albums for rings including the Dark Crowes as well as the Jayhawks. Delivered in 1965, he originally performed drums in regional garage rings as a teenager, but later turned to bass. While going to New York University or college, he befriended Rick Rubin, a campus DJ and aspiring maker. Rubin’s dorm space doubled because the headquarters from the fledgling Def Jam Information, the rap label he started with partner Russell Simmons; Drakoulias observed firsthand Def Jam’s rise to achievement, searching on as landmark singles by performers including Public Foe, the Beastie Males and L.L. Great J took airline flight. When Rubin later on broke away to create Def American — consequently rechristened just American Information — he required Drakoulias with him, using the second option soon putting your signature on the Dark Crowes and generating their 1990 smash Tremble Your Money Manufacturer. A chance telephone call to any office of Twin/Firmness Information resulted in Drakoulias’ discovery from the Jayhawks, and in 1992 he helmed their acclaimed Hollywood City Hall; the Dark Crowes’ Southern Tranquility and Musical Friend adopted that same 12 months. In 1993, Drakoulias came back with Maria McKee’s You Gotta Sin to obtain Saved. A 12 months later, he relocated from American roots-rock to utilize a set of English alternative rings, Primal Scream (HAND OUT But Don’t QUIT) and Trip (Carnival of Light), aswell a set of longtime heroes, Tom Petty (Wildflowers) and Memphis story Dan Penn (Perform Right Guy). Along with his third putting your signature on for American, the Freewheelers, Drakoulias resurfaced in 1996 using the aptly entitled Waitin’ for George.
