George Cartwright

Composer/saxophonist/improviser George Cartwright is most beneficial known for his use the group Curlew. Cartwright was created and elevated in Mississippi. In the 1970s he researched at Karl Berger’s Innovative Music Studio room in upstate NY, with such performers as Leo Smith, Anthony Braxton, and Oliver Lake. He shifted to Manhattan and became mixed up in “punk jazz” motion in the past due ’70s with Expenses Laswell, Fred Frith, as well as the people of Curlew. He improvised with performers like John Zorn, Charles K. Noyes, Polly Bradfield, and George Lewis. In the first ’80s, Cartwright documented Bright Standard bank Elewhale, an LP of improvised duets, with clarinetist Michael Lytle. He documented two LPs using the improvising collective Meltable Snaps It, whose revolving employees included Lytle, Christian Marclay, David Moss, and Tom Cora. Following the middle-’80s, Cartwright concentrated his attempts on Curlew. The music group released five albums: Curlew, THE UNITED STATES, Reside in Berlin, Bee, and A LOVELY Traditional western Saddle. Curlew also released a live video, The Wood. Cartwright offers performed a music/text message piece in cooperation with article writer Anne Elias. Cartwright’s 1st solo recording, Dot, requires him through the collaborative audio and design of a music group to a far more personally focused work. Subsequent efforts consist of 2000’s The Memphis Years.
