Gene Rains

Vibraphonist Gene Rains was the first choice from the Gene Rains Group, a Hawaiian jazz quartet that specialized in the post-World Battle II style referred to as exotica, which combined jazz, Oceania, light Latin rhythms, and additional chilled-out musical isle flotsam in sort of dream soundscape from the tropics. The group’s documenting career was short, only enduring from the first to middle-’60s, where four albums had been released, three with Decca Information: 1960’s Lotus Property, 1961’s Far Over the Ocean, and 1962’s Rains in the Tropics, and one with Vocalion Information, The Call from the Tropics. A 19-monitor compilation, A LONG WAY AWAY Lands: The Unique Music of Gene Rains, attracted through the three Decca albums, was released by Real Eliminated Music in 2014.
