Gem

Gem is really a guitar-driven pop-rock music group with explicit contacts to Cobra Verde and Guided By Voices. After starting Cobra Verde (from the ashes from the Cleveland group Loss of life of Samantha) with vocalist/guitarist John Petkovic and Dave Swanson in the first ’90s, guitarist Doug Gillard created the side task Jewel with Prisonshake drummer Scott Pickering and Four Coyotes guitarist Tim Tobias. The group debuted using the recording Hexed in 1995. In 1997, Gillard and the others of Cobra Verde supported Robert Pollard like a de facto Led By Voices lineup for the Mag Earwig recording. Gillard would stay with Led By Voices in following years, with Jewel member Tim Tobias becoming a member of up with Pollard aswell (on bass). Both Gem members had been important the different parts of the fairly steady GBV lineup that been around from the past due ’90s and on in to the fresh millenium (which played within the landmark Isolation Drills recording). In 2001, Tobias and Gillard once more flipped their attentions to Jewel using the recording Sunglare Serenades.
