Gem Club

Merging airy vocals with orchestral arrangements, Gem Golf club delivers a refined take on fantasy pop. Shaped in Somerville, Massachusetts, vocalist/pianist Christopher Barnes may be the primary group member, but brought classically educated cellist/bells/vocalist Kristen Drymala in to the flip after hearing her perform at a celebration. The set self-released the Acidity and Everything EP in summertime 2010, catching the interest of Paste mag’s blog, aswell as taking the idea of bedroom documenting a step additional by product packaging the disk with hand-stitched pillowcases. As the duo performed around Boston, alt-weekly the Phoenix crowned them Greatest New Work in its 2011 Greatest Music Poll, and full-length debut, Breakers, implemented that Sept for the Barely Artwork label. The group’s sophomore outing, 2014’s In Roses, was documented at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Phone studios by using arranger/conductor Minna Choi.
