Geist and the Sacred Ensemble

Using an intoxicating mixture of dark folk, Eastern mysticism-informed psych-rock, and doom-laden Americana that invokes brands like Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Tone of voice, Calexico, and Six Organs of Admittance, Seattle, Washington’s Geist as well as the Sacred Ensemble had been shaped in 2006 by frontman Michael Sauder and percussionist Samuel Yoder. Citing inspirations like Ennio Morricone and George Crumb, and sketching from Sauder’s formative years in Lancaster, Pa where he spent period being a grave digger, the band’s extremely cinematic, generally acoustic, semi-apocalyptic doom folk initial noticed the light of time in 2008 using the release of the self-titled EP beneath the name Geist & Samuel Joseph. The next year noticed the duo broaden into a little collective and officially adopt the Geist as well as the Sacred Outfit moniker, and in 2011 they released their full-length debut record, Searching for Fabled Lands, on cassette via the Seattle 3rd party Translinguistic Other. Another cassette, Beyond This Vessel, came a couple of years later, this time around through the Oakland, California-based Moon Glyph label.
