Gaya

A skilled and effective composer, arranger, and orchestrator, Lindolfo Gaia started as a specialist in 1942 at Rádio Transmissora (Rio de Janeiro). Later on, he worked well at Rádio Tupi and with the Orquestra perform Chiquinho, on Rádio Clube, and had written preparations and orchestrations for over 15 years for RCA Victor and Odeon. In the first ’50s, Gaia shaped his personal group, Gaia e Sua Orquestra. In 1951, he documented the valses “Morrer Sem Ter Amado” and “Último Beijo” (Zequinha de Abreu), and got his baião “Pregão” documented by his wife, Stellinha Egg; while Zaccarias e Sua Orquestra documented his baião “Minas Gerais,” organized by himself and Zaccarias. In 1955, Gaia was granted with the very best Album of the entire year reward, for his preparations for Dorival Caymmi’s “O Vento” and “O Mar,” documented by Egg. Departing for European countries with Stellinha Egg, Gaia carried out the Philharmonic Orchestra of Warsaw in Poland, and was granted with a yellow metal medal from the Polish authorities. In Moscow, U.S.S.R., Gaia carried out the Grand Orchestra from the Strada Theatre, and participated within the film Folklore of Five Countries (by Alexandrov), playing unique choros. In France, Egg created a film which Gaia was the musical movie director. Surviving in Paris, Gaia worked well for Ray Ventura and do preparations for recordings. Time for Brazil, he continuing to are an arranger, and in the first ’60s, he had written the preparations for Silvinha Telles’ LP Amor de Gente Moça; also having achievement with his single recording Dança Morena, which got “Rosa Morena” (Dorival Caymmi) and “Grau Dez” (Lamartine Babo/Ary Barroso), amongst others. In 1965, Gaia was granted with the Euterpe reward for the structure of the tracks for the display Rio de Quatrocentos Janeiros, shown in the Copacabana Palace Resort, documented for an LP celebrating the 400 many years of Rio de Janeiro. In 1966, he was among the jurors who chosen the tracks that would take part in the I FIC (International Music Festival of Television Rio), also organizing and conducting a lot of the 36 chosen types, including “Saveiros” (Dori Caymmi/Nelson Motta). The tracks were released for the LP O Grande Festival, for whose preparations and performing he received the Galo de Ouro reward. Having directed displays by Elizete Cardoso and Amália Rodrigues, he also shown TV applications on well-known music along with his wife, while he continuing to write preparations for Odeon, getting the business’s A&R movie director years later.
