Gaudier Ensemble

The Gaudier Outfit is a chamber group that performs music for winds, strings, and piano, typically from your eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. As the functions it plays are usually by well-known composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Dvorák, the music artists often explore the much less familiar — Spohr, Berwald, and Francaix. The London-based Gaudier Outfit includes 11 players of combined nationalities: two on violin (Lesley Hatfield, Marieke Blankestijn), one each on viola (Iris Juda), cello (Christoph Marks), dual bass (Stephen Williams), oboe (Douglas Boyd), flute (Jaime Martin), clarinet (Richard Hosford), horn (Jonathan Williams), bassoon (Robin O’Neill), and piano (Susan Tomes). Users also hold additional posts with numerous orchestras or at colleges and often show up as soloists or conductors in a variety of European or English locales. The group was created in 1989 in London. That yr the Gaudier Outfit gave it concert debut in June at London’s Wigmore Hall, sketching enthusiastic compliment from critics and target audience alike. Its 1st recording made an appearance in 1990 within the ASV label, the Schubert Octet in F main. Subsequent recordings from the Gaudier players have already been issued within the Hyperion label. In 1991 the group began its own annual music event in Britain, at Cerne Abbas, Dorset. Six years later on it established another festival, that one at Leersum, Holland. By this time around the Gaudier Outfit had become popular through the entire U.K. and far of European countries, propelled by effective concert trips and by a string of acclaimed recordings on Hyperion, like the 1993 launch of Beethoven’s Sextet and Septet, the 1994 Octet and non-et by Spohr, as well as the 1995 Dvorák Piano Quintet and String Quintet. In the brand new hundred years the Gaudier Outfit continued producing regular appearances through the entire U.K. — at Wigmore Hall, St. John’s Smith Square, with the Edinburgh and Cheltenham International Celebrations. They have regularly concertized throughout European countries, too, specifically in Holland (Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Heuvelrug Event) and Germany (Schleswig Holstein Event). The group’s 2003 documenting of Mozart’s Piano Concertos No. 11, No. 12, no. 13, with Susan Tomes as piano soloist, drew essential acclaim from British review publications (The Guardian as well as the Daily Telegraph) and from over the sea (The American Record Guidebook). The Gaudier Outfit toured Holland in March and Apr 2006 with great achievement, and later on drew acclaim for shows in the Cerne Abbas Music Event, kept on July 27-30.
