b. 26 June 1953, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Taking on the trombone as a little kid, Valente was motivated and tutored by his trombone-playing dad. In the first to middle-70s he undertook formal music research at the brand new England Conservatory. During this time period he analyzed with Jaki Byard and in addition made his 1st recordings using the NEC’s Jazz Repertory Orchestra. Since that time, he has performed and often documented with important numbers in the introduction of modern big music group jazz. Among these have already been George Russell, Carla Bley (right away from the 80s in to the middle-90s, showing up on two of the leader’s perhaps most obviously albums, Fleur Carnivore as well as the Carla Bley Big Band WOULD GO TO Chapel,), Lester Bowie, and Chico O’Farrill. In smaller sized organizations; Charlie Haden, Andy Sheppard, with music artists as disparate as Cab Calloway, Joe Lovano and Don Byron, with bass participant Ed Schuller’s Eleventh Hour group (The Eleventh Hour and Snake Dance), and with Mat Maneri. In the past due 80s Valente co-led a little music group with tenor saxophonist Bob Hanlon and in 1994 teamed up with fellow trombonists Craig Harris, Ray Anderson and George Lewis to create Slideride, the group producing its documenting debut the next year. Additional 90s engagements included George Gruntz’s Concert Jazz Music group and Arvell Shaw’s Louis Armstrong Legacy Music group. His past due 90s outings with Lester Bowie’s Brass Dream and O’Farrill’s Afro-Cuban Big Band had been especially rewarding. By the end of the 10 years Valente again caused Bley and in addition formed a fresh quintet that included Lew Soloff.
