Biography

Among Nashville’s most prolific and respectable songwriters, Gary Nicholson spent some time working with the majority of country’s stalwarts along with the modern generation of superstars. He features credits on albums by Reba McEntire, the Dixie Chicks, George Jones, Montgomery Gentry, Garth Brooks, the Mavericks, Emmylou Harris, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Billy Ray Cyrus, Waylon Jennings, Patty Loveless, Tanya Tucker, Conway Twitty, Suzy Bogguss and Keith Whitley, to mention several. He in addition has worked in various other popular music areas which range from pop to R&B and blues, his customers including Dave Edmunds, John Mayall, Neil Gemstone and B.B. Ruler. Nicholson began composing after shifting to LA in his teenagers, joining a music group playing Traveling Burrito Brothers music. When Gram Parsons travelled through Tx, he befriended Nicholson, resulting in a small posting deal in LA. He continued composing for his very own band, within a vein he referred to as ‘pre-Eagles nation rock and roll.’ His discovery emerged in 1980 when Mickey Gilley sang his ‘Jukebox Debate’ within the film Urban Cowboy.
