Gabriela Benacková

While most widely known for her achievements in Czech music, especially that of Dvorák and Smetana, Benackova has performed in almost all the lirico-spinto soprano assignments in the Italian repertoire. She’s earned equal compliment on her behalf musicianship and vocal beauty, though she actually is sometimes accused of getting a non-Italianate coolness to people jobs. She’s also sung the greater lyric Wagner jobs, including Eva and Senta. Her opera debut was on the Country wide Movie theater in Prague, as Natasha in Prokofiev’s Battle and Peacefulness, in 1970.
