Gabe Baltazar

Gabe Baltazar was among the last great graduates in the Stan Kenton Orchestra but, because he lives in Hawaii, he’s greatly underrated. Baltazar transferred to the mainland from Hawaii within the middle-’50s, documenting with Paul Togawa in 1957 and spending a short unrecorded period in 1960 using the Lighthouse All-Stars. He obtained identification for his years with Kenton (1960-1965) where he recorded a number of satisfying solos. Baltazar caused Terry Gibbs (1965) and documented with Gil Fuller and Oliver Nelson before time for Hawaii in 1969. Within the ’90s, he been to California frequently and recorded being a head for the new Audio and V.S.O.P. brands, displaying the jazz globe just how solid a soloist he’s.
