Funky Derrick


The alias of Frenchman Mederic Nebinger, Funky Derrick focuses on disco-sampled retrodelia with nods to commercial home. As a kid, Nebinger performed piano and paid attention to disco in addition to Tangerine Wish. He studied rules and proved helpful in marketing, though after an launch towards the music of DJ Pierre, he bought a sampler and started producing. He documented sporadically through the ’90s, including singles for the French brands Rave Age group and Deja Vous, before getting agreed upon to Twisted/MCA under his Funky Derrick guise. Debut record Boogie Dawn made an appearance in 1999.
