Fruupp

Among the hardest-working progressive rings to get rid of up languishing in comparative obscurity, Fruupp was begun in 1971 by guitarist Vince McCusker. Following a short musical apprenticeship in London, McCusker came back to Belfast and quickly taken together several largely classically educated music artists; the lineup was uncommon for the reason that keyboardist Stephen Houston doubled in the oboe. (The uncommon music group name was extracted from a Lectreset sheet.) The band’s causing sound isn’t unlike Springtime or early Genesis, with principal composers McCusker and Houston performing as foils for every additional: Houston’s cello, oboe, and violin typically lend dark folk textures beneath McCusker’s intense acoustic guitar parts and Peter Farelly’s Celtic-influenced vocals. After 2 yrs of gigging, they shopped their demonstration tape around and had been found by Pye Information for his or her Dawn label. Between 1973 and 1975, Fruupp released four albums, the final which was made by Ruler Crimson alum Ian McDonald; the music group also toured to get Crimson. Despite playing a huge selection of gigs each year through the entire U.K. and European countries during this time period, their record product sales never quite became popular, and the music group closed up store after a last London gig in the Roundhouse in 1976.
