The excitable new-school electro drum’n’bass of Friend formed area of the highly respected Swedish label Dot, which broke from the gate in early 1997 with four impeccable EPs — one each by Hab, Tupilaq, Quant and Friend. Both “Chromosome on the market” as well as the afterwards “Sauna Periods” were bits of electro-jungle fusion tuned with an unusually great hands, and on Friend’s double-pack One from the Week EP, he received help from friend Doktor Kosmos (of Komeda) for the amazingly straightahead quasi-pop melody. Friend’s debut record Hot Rod made an appearance on Dot in Sept 1997.
