Featuring Nathan Willett and Matt Maust of Cold Battle Children and We Barbarians’ Nathan Warkentin, France Style Furs move deeper in to the soulful yet punky noises of the group people’ main tasks. Maust and Willett linked to Warkentin while in NEW YORK and began focusing on music jointly in early 2013, acquiring the project’s name from a Greenpoint furrier. While Warkentin and Maust laid down simple tracks, Willett modified the poetry of 20th hundred years monk Thomas Merton — whose composing grappled with cultural justice and spirituality — into lyrics. By using collaborators including percussionist Stephen Hodges and Dirty Projectors’ Haley Dekle, France Style Furs finished their first full-length, Can be Exotic Bait. The record, which manufacturer Nick Launay blended, found its way to July 2014.
