Even more old-school hip-hop, electro, and ragga than big-beat techno (though they’re frequently pigeonholed that method), the Freestylers were shaped with the trio of Matt Cantor, Aston Harvey, and Andrew Galea. All three had been British b-boys back your day, and had been heavily involved with Britain’s dance picture by the past due ’80s, both as DJs and manufacturers, with Cantor documenting as Cut’n’Paste, 2 Fats Buddhas, and Freska All Superstars, amongst others, and Harvey as Blapps! Posse (writer of the 1990 breakbeat traditional “Don’t RESTRAIN”). Harvey experienced also caused Rebel MC and Description of Sound, but after conference Galea, the set began recording collectively as Sol Brothers and quickly brought Cantor in to the fold aswell. Acquiring the name Freestylers using their 1st test (Freestyle’s “Don’t Quit the Rock and roll”), the trio released their 1st solitary, “Drop the Growth (AK-48)” and created their own Scuff City Records release a it. The monitor was a perfect cut of vocoderized electro, and became an underground golf club traditional as much afield as bass-driven Miami. The Freestyle EP adopted past due in 1996, and Freestylers also released singles on Freskanova (house of Cantor’s many single tasks). The group actually managed a graph hit (and The surface of the Pops appearance) with 1998’s “B-Boy Position,” a cooperation with vocalist Tenor Take flight. A spate of remixing adopted, for Audioweb, Afrika Bambaataa, as well as the Jungle Brothers (the second option a set of the Freestylers’ perfect affects). The trio also helmed the big-beat compilation FSUK 2 and added a “Radio One Necessary Blend” (where Beenie Man, General public Foe, the Fall, and Whodini all rubbed elbows). Live looks at Glastonbury and about the European event circuit fulfilled with much compliment, as well as the Freestylers finally released their debut record, We ROCK SOLID, in 1999. The combine record Electro Science implemented a year afterwards.
