A spin-off of Procol Harum, Independence was formed by guitarist Ray Royer and drummer Bobby Harrison. Both of these had been in Procol Harum’s lineup first because of their debut “A Whiter Tone of Pale” one, but had been ousted almost instantly when Procol vocalist, Gary Brooker, enlisted his previous bandmates through the Paramounts, Robin Trower and Barry Wilson, as substitutes. Freedom’s early audio, probably unsurprisingly, echoed Procol Harum’s in its prominent usage of body organ and piano, aswell as heavy rock and roll electric guitar, and like Procol Harum’s early information, captured late Uk psychedelia since it was needs to inches toward progressive rock and roll. Independence wasn’t a Procol Harum clone, though, using a relatively poppier undertake psychedelia that was nearer to Visitors than Procol Harum. Their preliminary lineup just released two singles in 1968 before splitting up, also documenting a soundtrack for an obscure Italian film by Dino De Laurentis, Appeal/Dark on Light. The soundtrack LP was presented with a limited discharge in Italy — therefore limited, actually, how the group people themselves had been unaware it had turn out. Documented with noted potential manufacturers Eddie Kramer and Glyn Johns anatomist, this is reissued on Compact disc in 1999, and is truly a very good if derivative cut of past due-’60s United kingdom psychedelia. In 1968, Harrison made a decision to reorganize the music group completely — actually, therefore totally that he was the just remaining first member. Even more albums arrived in the past due ’60s and early ’70s which, commensurate with general British rock developments of the time, were within a very much heavier, hard, bluesier design. We were holding middle-of-the-pack, or just a little less than the middle-of-the-pack, initiatives with nothing to create them stick out through the crowd within a blocked field. They do reach tour the U.S. as support for Dark Sabbath and Jethro Tull, and split up in 1972 after some employees adjustments. Harrison became the lead vocalist in the little-known Snafu, while guitarist Roger Saunders, through the later incarnation from the music group, did some program work, joined Medication Head, and performed in Gary Glitter’s group through the ’80s.
