Freddie McKay

Biography

Rocksteady singer Freddie McKay had several hits within the ’60s (among that was miscredited to another person!), recorded using the Spirit Defenders, among various other studio room groups, and caused Jamaica’s best reggae companies Duke Reid, Coxsone Dodd, and Prince Buster. Purportedly blessed in the past due ’40s in St. Catherine, Freddie McKay continued to record for the Studio room One and Treasure Isle brands, working with studio room rings the Revolutionaires, the G.G. Allstars, as well as the Spirit Defenders, with whom McKay trim “Picture in the Wall structure” (his biggest strike), “SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Dance,” as well as other exciting, but non-charting, music including “Aged and Grey.” Based on the compilation AWAKEN Jamaica, a different one of McKay’s strikes, “Love Is really a Treasure,” was released in the past due ’60s like a Treasure Isle Kids solitary. The song’s reissue in the first ’70s got the performer incorrect again, this time around list Tommy McCook’s All Celebrities. Ultimately, the record was arranged straight and some of Freddie McKay’s singles continued to be perennial favorites on ska and rocksteady compilations years later.
