Fred Small

The political insight, individual compassion, and environmental concern that inspired Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Fred Little — an attorney and Unitarian Universalist minister — to get a law degree continues to be eloquently expressed in his folk-rooted songs. Little has musically dealt with from homosexuality within the military as well as the needless difficulties from the impaired to radioactive frogs along with a moose’s infatuation using a cow. Pete Seeger, Rosalie Sorrels, the Flirtations, Steve Gillette, and Priscilla Herdman are just a number of the many music artists who have protected Small’s music. Small’s tune “Everything Feasible” was useful for the finale from the Helps benefit musical Center Strings in 1992. The grandnephew of famous painter Thomas Hart Benton, Little was primed for intellectual pursuits. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Yale School, he continued to review for a rules level along with a master’s level in natural assets policy in the School of Michigan. Although he was raised hearing his parents’ record collection, including many Kingston Trio albums, Little didn’t become seriously interested in music until his early twenties. He constructed his first tune a couple of hours before acquiring his first rules school examination. After finishing college, Little accepted an employee attorney placement for the Conservation Legislation Basis in Boston. Though it made an appearance his potential was secure, Little became increasingly soaked up by his songwriting. Showing up in regional folk music night clubs and coffeehouses, he quickly captivated acclaim for his witty, politically tinged music. Small’s views produced him a favorite performer at politics and antinuclear presentations, including a nationally broadcast Music artists United for Safe and sound Energy concert at New York’s Electric battery Recreation area in 1978. The enthusiastic response he received motivated Little to resign from his legislation placement and devote even more of his energies toward performing and songwriting. Small’s debut recording, Like Will Carry Us, premiered in 1981. Even though recording focused around his classical guitar and vocals, Small’s following recordings were progressively created with instrumental and vocal support by New England’s greatest folk performers. Associated with fiddler Johnny Cunningham, acoustic guitar and mandolin participant John Curtis (Pousette-Dart Music group), and history vocalist Catherine David, Little documented a live recording, Everything Feasible: Fred Little in Concert, in the Aged Cambridge Baptist Chapel on March 26, 1993. Following the convert of the brand new millennium, his record Only Love premiered with the Aquifer label. Little became a minister within the Unitarian Universalist Cathedral in 1993, and in 2008 became Mature Minister on the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Cathedral in Cambridge. He’s also a co-chair of Spiritual Witness for the planet earth, a nationwide interfaith environmental network.
