Fred Katz’s cello using the Chico Hamilton Quintet during 1955-1958 was largely in charge of the popular awesome jazz group’s exclusive sound and atmospheric design. Katz was classically qualified (he previously analyzed with Pablo Casals) and worked well in orchestras, but additionally performed piano. In the first ’50s, he followed several performers, including Lena Horne and Tony Bennett. While with Hamilton, Katz also documented many albums of his very own for Pacific Jazz, Decca, and Warner Bros. (1956-1958). After departing Chico (with whom he documented one final occur 1959), Katz mainly worked beyond jazz, both in traditional music so when a teacher in anthropology. In 1989, he was section of a Chico Hamilton Quintet reunion, documenting for Soul Take note and displaying that he was still a masterful musician.
